I am light on posting for the last week. Well, it is celebrations month for me
I am also carrying out intensive backtesting for a trading system that I may deploy during this earnings season commencing today after the market close with earnings announcement from Alcoa (AA).
Right here, I will share another productivity tip with Firefox. For the seasoned users of Firefox, here comes another good news.
I was brought to the attention of this mainly because I was not able to install Firefox on my company’s PC because the system configuration is locked down for security reasons. By “locked down”, I mean I was not given access to the “Windows” and “Program Files” folders in Windows XP. The Windows registry is locked as well. Basically, we are not allowed to install any softwares on our own.
But I miss Firefox
and one fine day, I came across Firefox Portable by PortableApps.com. And this has saved my day!
How is this different from the original Firefox? They are the same, as far as I am concerned. The cool part is that the installation of Firefox Portable does not touch any of the Windows system folders and registry and I am able to install it on my locked down PC!
Installation is a breeze. Check out the one paragraph installation instructions. A mere extraction of a folder to your local drive and double-click “FirefoxPortable.exe” to start it!
Then I discover another benefit that helps in improving my productivity! Right now, I bring my Firefox Portable wherever I go. Well, not literally. But I can copy the entire Firefox Portable folder from my office PC to my home PC. With this, all my browser settings, including my trading-related bookmarks, saved passwords are all intact. I do not have to set up my browser from scratch when I want to run it from a new PC. It also serves as a backup in event that my PC crashes (touch wood!).
