As part of continuing education in trading, I attended a short seminar by Ray Barros two evenings back.
Boy, was it an exciting evening to spend with a trader with over 30 years of trading experience. I applaud his passion in trading to be standing all the while on the stage despite his medical condition.
Starting off, he brought all of us back to the real world:
- 80 - 90% of newbie traders fail (he considers anyone who don’t have profits for consecutive three years is considered “newbie”)
- the best trader he knows achieves 40% return annually, Warren Buffett achieves around 20% annual returns
So, did anyone tell you recently that his/her techniques can return 200% in 3 weeks?
And he went on to discuss his model for trading success, that includes:
- a trading plan with an edge
- risk management strategy, that translate to sound money and trade management strategies
- psychology
He highlighted that what was really the KEY was CONSISTENT EXECUTION of the above. That was my main takeaway.
What I like about about the seminar is that Ray did not jump into trading strategies or just focus on trading strategies. He discussed in details techniques for trade journaling and using a 3-1-0 system for grading our trades so that we can access our trading discipline quantitatively as well as whether or not our trading plan is working for us. Which is exactly what I needed at this point in time!
